FAQs About Online Counselling

  • Yes! I offer online counselling for females who want to feel confident and happy but need professional help sorting out personal issues and an array of feelings. A combination of in-person and on-line counselling is offered which helps women who live week by week due to juggling hers' and her family members’ schedules. (I get it)!

  • Yes! With online counselling you will receive the same counselling service that you would with my in-person counselling. By using a collaborative effort, I will insert Solution-Focused, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Mindful, Strength -based Therapies that will help and support you through these challenging times. As well, no matter where you are doing a gentle yoga pose or deep breathing (in a studio, my office or online with me), I will guide you through these practices with ease and comfort.

Online counselling has become more common in recent years and more so with all the changes due to the Covid-19 crisis. Research has consistently shown that online therapy can be just as effective as an in-person session. The relationship and trust you have with your therapist is the most important factor in the effectiveness of therapy whether it is online or in-person. It is also a wonderful option for women/moms who are pressed for time and don’t want to spend time on the road.

  • Having an online therapy session is easy! Once you contact me with your request for an appointment, we can then schedule a zoom meeting.

  • Online counselling sessions are best experienced on a computer or laptop using Chrome or Firefox. To prepare for our zoom meeting, you will need to download the program on your device.

  • Many clients who do not live alone have found that that these solutions help:

    • Closing their bedroom door and turning on some music/white noise

    • Sitting in your car for the session

    • Asking their partner/family to go for a walk or drive

 FAQs about Appointments

  • Yes! My office address will be disclosed upon booking your appointment.

  • Yes! You can reschedule your appointment upto 24 hours in advance. Please contact me directly for anything less than 24 hours.

  • As per the ethical guidelines of the profession and our own integrity, anything we talk about in session is confidential; exceptions as required by law are outlined in the consent to counselling form sent to you upon booking. Not only do we not discuss the content of our sessions with others, if someone calls and asks if you have attended therapy, or if you are a client, I will not confirm those details unless otherwise agreed upon in writing. For success in your counselling sessions, the foundation of our professional working relationship must be built on trust.

  • Once your appointment is confirmed, I will send you a consent to counselling form to complete before our first session. We will go over it at the beginning of our first session. After that, we will discuss what has brought you to counselling in more detail and find out what is important to you as we move forward in our work together.

  • At the beginning of each session you will be asked what you would like to discuss. As we explore your situation, I may gently challenge some ideas or beliefs you hold, as well as offer suggestions for homework, and implement tools to further your insight about the issues that arise, but we work at a pace that you are comfortable with. I will check in with you to make sure we are focusing on your concerns and progress. I recommend two sessions for the first couple of weeks. Thereafter, we will work with both your schedule and counselling needs to book future appointments: weekly, bi-weekly or once a month.

  • As in all important relationships, open communication is important in a professional counselling relationship as well. If you feel that you are not making progress or that something doesn’t feel right, this is something that we can talk about. We can make a plan to either change the way we work together or I will help you find a therapist who suits your needs. Transparent, honest, respectful communication can be good practice in becoming effective in asking for what you need.
